2 days, 5 hours and 45 minutes

Not that I'm counting but that is all I have left at this place of employ. I'm gettin more and more excited about my new position!

I had a fantastically relaxing weekend where I was afraid I would turn into a lump and I read and read and read. But I did not knit. I took a mini break from the Sitcom Chic to allow my hand to rest. It's a funny pain, it only hurts when I am purling with the cotton yarn on metal needles. If I am knitting, no pain. If I use wool, no pain. But still I think a mini-rest was necessary though I do want to finish my sweater so I can wear it!

OK back to my countdown...

Clawing Sitcom Chic

My Sitcom Chic is knitting up extremely well. I really love how Cotton Ease looks and I've heard that it wears well.

I do believe that I should be further along but I keep experiencing the attack of the claw!

My hand begins to curve into a horrible shape and the pain begins stabbing at my tendons when I try to purl this cardigan. So while knitting a row takes me mere moments, purling is another story.

I purl a few stitches, rest, purl, scream, purl, rub hand, purl, pray to get to end of row before hand spamisms, purl, sigh - at end of row.

But last night I measured and I'm currently at 10 1/2 inches. I need to knit and purl another 4 inches before I begin the sleeves and the eyelet details. Those will mean I'm nearly done!

Now I'm off to research why cotton + purling = THE CLAW HAND!

Cookie Wookie

I've been dilgently working along on my Sitcom Chic Cardigan but miles of St St do not make for fascintating blog photos! Still I'll show you what I have:

I do however have more interesting photos. I just started cat sitting a sweet kitty, named Cookie (and I now call Cookie Wookie). This morning I spent many minutes trying to capture her on film but all she wanted was to be let outside (which is why the pictures have a bit of a blur -- she kept moving to the door everytime she saw me).

Cookie is not happy that I am not letting her outside.

She's a sweet kitty but one who will let you know if she's had enough petting. She's very helpful with knitting too!

So tonight plans are for Sitcom Chic and I to get some repeats in while I get my car oil changed and then for Wookie and I to sit together while I get some spanish homework done. Sounds like a great plan to me!

Updates

I just updated reading. Only 13 more books to reach my goal of reading 30 this year!
Party Weekend

Whew! Finally Monday so I can rest! This weekend was busy with Star Wars viewing, Mot's Birthday Party and dog sitting. Yes, Star Wars was good but Mot's birthday was better.

Here are Julie and Eric before Star Wars. Julie has her Dark Side face on!

Mot's party is best explained in photos:

Kate tries to comfort a troubled mind.

The rest of the weekend was spent studying spanish and watching the dog. Phoenix spent about 5 hours yesterday chasing the cats around the house. Those poor kitties needed a rest from this little guy!

The Thrill

Quitting your job can be quite addictive. There is a thrill in watching people's faces when you tell them you resigned your position. There is an excitement in it. It almost makes you want to quit jobs all the time. And while you remember why you enjoyed working at your now former place of employment, there are so many things that
reinforce your decision to leave. While the anticipation of your new position leaves you breathless, the hope moves you forward.

Due to the flurry of job activity, the knitting has suffered a bit. I have however made some progress on my sitcom chic.

I've been watching my brother's puppy again and as you can see from this pictorial slideshow, one of the cats and him had words (pictorial slideshow done in Crazy Aunt Purl style).

I just did a scary thing!

I quit my job!

I have accepted a new position in Media Relations with a fantastic company in Seattle. I begin on Monday, June 6th and then on June 10th I head out to Chicago for a long weekend. Carolyn will be helping me celebrate along with Matya and Liz.

A huge heartfelt thanks to all who helped me with this difficult decision! I really appreciated all of your wisdom and advice!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MATYA

Today a very special friend turns 30 and with it comes the realization that I've known her more than half her life. She is one of the brightest and most talented people I know. She can diagnose a disease from a mile away while talking to people in three different languages.

She allows me to talk endlessly about knitting, life and her favorite topic, TRAFFIC! She hates when I call her in the wee early hours but giggles when I tell her why I called (usually to talk about traffic).

She loves going out on Pub Crawls and exploring new restaurants. If there is something new going on in town, Mot has already found out about it in the Stranger and has recruited everyone to attend with her.

She encourages my love of photography and endures all the photos I make her take of our faces together.

She enjoys visiting all the dogs I watch and especially loves the Yip-Yips. She's growled with Roux and sprinted up hills with Zubin. She goes running with me and slows down her pace so we can talk. She makes me try new things and is there for me when something bad happens and is first in line to celebrate the good.

So Happy Birthday Matya! I hope you have a grand day and I know it was made better because I woke you up to sing Happy Birthday! (I know you loved it!)

Tigers and Toes

This past week has been exciting, frightening, thrilling and pressuring. There have been events swirling behind the scenes and on Friday night, a pedicure was in order. My toes are now the sweetest looking things out there.

and a close-up so you completely understand,

Saturday night, some friends and I headed out for the Ballard Artwalk and while I plan to write more on this later, I'll leave you with what beer does to two girls with stressful job situations!

There is an emergency in the building

My building must have the most fire drills in the world. Two or three times a month, we hear sirens and a woman's voice announcing, "There is an emergency in the building. Please exit the building. Do not use the elevators." This morning, shortly after I arrived in the office, we had our second of the month.

We grudgingly grab our bags and head down the cement stairs to the street. We have to move away from the building and so the people in charge have decided that our building should re-group in the adjacent parking lot. The one that houses a sex shop and a strange restaurant that appears to change names and themes about as often as we have fire drills. Today the faint aroma of fish was present in the air and the skies threatened rain. Some people had grabbed their laptops and were frantically working in the parking lot while others took the opportunity to gossip with co-workers. After about 30 minutes, we were allowed back into the building. Some rushed up the stairs while others waited for the elevators. Now I'm back at my desk, waiting for the next fire drill.

Brilliant Keane

Purlygirl Meg, her boyfriend, Matt and I headed out to watch Keane last night at the Paramount Theatre. In true Harlot fashion, I also brought along the sock.

Moments after this photo was taken, I heard Meg whisper to Matt, "See I could be worse! At least I don't make you pose with knitted socks at concerts." But I just KNOW Matt loved posing with the sock.

Between sets, I quickly snapped the sock enjoying itself at the show.

Keane was absolutely brilliant! Tom Chaplin's voice is so strong and smooth. Watching Tim Rice-Oxley on Piano and Keyboard was vastly amusing. I've never seen anyone play with that much enthusiam. Towards the end of the show, the band had cameras which showed intense close-ups of their feet or hands, etc. The best camera angle was of drummer Richard Hughes' face while playing drums.

This was the best picture I could get of the band. I wasn't sure if cameras were allowed so I was trying to be sneaky.

Baby Knits

Baby knitting abounds in these parts! With the plethora of babies being born around me and my quest for quick projects, baby knits are fulfilling many a need.

Last night I cast on for the braided cable socks from the latest Interweave Knits. Using Harlot approved metal needles, I've accomplished quite a bit for 15 minutes of knitting.

I had considered these socks for my new cousin but he's a boy and these socks are pink. So instead, I believe these will go to a co-worker who is having a girl in a few short months.

While many spent this weekend in Maryland at the Sheep and Wool festival, I was busy myself. I used the time to pack up my winter clothing, sort out paper on my desk, go for a nice long swim, take baby bike out for her initial summer ride and watch "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" with my Mum (oh and other family members were there too! It was Mother's Day!) All in all, it was a pretty good weekend and Diana was nice enough to keep the pace and distance down on my initial ride of the season. It felt so good though and I am ready to get my bike out for more rides! Right after I fix my brake pads though! They are in desparate need of replacing!

Tijuana Weekend

This weekend, I headed down south to Tijuana with my friend, Kenn. We parked the car at a Park and Ride in San Diego and took the trolley to the border. There we boarded the "chicken bus" and headed over the line.

Kenn and I agreed that the suspension on the bus left much to be desired!

Once we arrived in Tijuana, we walked down the main drag to the tune of, "Honeymooners! We have family shows (while pointing to a nudie bar!)" and "Honeymooners! We have good stuff! Come inside!"

With all that walking, I was sure happy to be wearing my new sneakers!

One of Kenn's co-workers is from Tijuana and provided us with a wonderful restaurant suggestion for lunch. While I can't remember the name of the place, they did have fantastic Paella and "Happy Juice" (as termed by Kenn and I).

Feeling quite pleased with my meal, we spent some time finding a futbol jersey for Kenn and then headed back to the States. After a very enjoyable day, I was a bit beat!

We decided to end the day with a movie and saw, "Millions." I'd highly recommend the film and found the cinematography to be quite beautiful.

Precious little knitting occurred this weekend but fun was had by all. Best of all, I did get to visit with one of my favorite knitters, Momma M! Kenn and I had breakfast with her and her husband who were kind enough to take time out their busy schedules to see me! Momma M showed me her lastest creation and it was beautiful!
