Katrina
I once had a cat named Katrina. She was born to the cat of a family friend and at the age of four, I was allowed to select which one of the kitties would become my kitty. I choose her because she was the loudest kitten. Of course, shortly after this she quieted down and never made that much noise again!
She was a beautiful calico and I was crushed when she died. She was the kind of cat who would knead your back before promptly falling asleep in the small of your back. She would push at me if I was sleeping on my back until I rolled over so she could catch a snooze on me.
She was also full of mystery. She went places in our greenbelt that I've never been to, explored areas and made friends where I never knew one could. At times, my Mom and I have wondered if her spirit still lives in the house.
And so it is fitting that one of the worst Hurricanes in American history was named, Katrina and that she has wrecked havoc on one of our most mysterious cities, New Orleans along with other places along the Southern Coast. Today is the day to pray for those who have suffered so much and if you are able to donate some funds to the relief effort.

Missing Matya
It has been 1.75 days since Mot left. Since she flew off to Ecuador for FIVE long weeks, which means I will be without my Motty for FIVE weeks. Five weeks where I can not call her after work and breath on the phone because I don't really have much to say but I just want to talk to her. Five weeks where I can't go to Taco Del Mar with Mot and be forced to speak bad Spanish. Five weeks where no one will montior my yarn acquistions. Five weeks where there will be no carpe diem with the Mot.
I'm not sure how I'm going to survive this but before Mot left she told me that I would be fine. You see Mot will be fine without me because she'll have five weeks of adventure but ME, I'll be here living my life without one important piece. AND that is so unacceptable.
I do know that Motty will have so much fun and she is going to learn so much.
So Motty have a great time in Ecuador (see I remembered where you were going) and bring me back lots of stories of your time down south!

Is it possible?
to be this funny without hurting yourself from laughter?
I'm still laughing hours later!

Knitted Dog Weekend
Whew! My weekend was filled to the brim with dogs! On Saturday, Roux had both Jesse (the neighbor's dog) and Zubin over for a visit. Zubin acutally had his first sleepover and yes, it felt an awful lot like I was dealing with children!
Today Roux's cousin, Hershey has arrived for her week-long visit.
BarkFest 2005 has and continues to be a success!
As for me, I started knitting Trellis on Saturday for my baby cousin, Ethan. he is going to look so cute in this!
Now it is time for the work week and a bit of rest since I had quite the busy weekend with dogs, Chateau work and secrets.

Nuthin much to say...
Old Photo from last time I visited Roux
Roux and I are spending some quality time together this week while his Mum visits friends in Portland and family in Charleston. Last night was my first night there and the memories came flooding back. There was the crazy bark fest at the bottom of the stairs while I attempted to watch television, there was the cold nose on the back of my knees while I made dinner, the snuggle fest while I read Proust and this morning the grand barking at 7 a.m. (right about now, I'm sure the neighbors LOVE me!)
This weekend, we'll see Andi for one night, play with Zubin and have Roux's cousin, Hershey over to spend time with us next week. Let me just say that the fun has only begun. Bark Fest 2005 is on!

Fighting the procrastination spirit
Last night I told the Procrastination Spirit to give it up, I was casting on for the back of my Ronnie sweater no matter how much whining was involved. The Ronnie sweater requires a cable cast on and while I can adapt, I am not very fast when it comes to casting on in this style. Of course, it gave me practice for my Birch cast-on.
Here is the back of Ronnie, all cast on and a few rows knitted. Today I shall set knitting goals for myself and get this sweater done!
Zubin recently moved into a new place (which is a bit closer to me and is owned by his owner). I visited him there this weekend and after failing to push me down the stairs, he took to guarding the doorway. I think it was to keep me from leaving without him.
Ignore that pathetic face! He got to go on a walk to the lake shortly after this photo was taken!

AAhhhhhhh
My hair, it is much better now. The bangs are back. The red is back. All is better and I loved seeing my hairdresser again. She seemed so happy. The move was a good thing.
Even Destiny enjoyed the new hair.
and while getting the hair done, I finished up a square for John's blanket.

Starteritis (or however one spells that)
I caught the boat off Sleeve Island and quickly boarded the train to Starteritis-ville. And yet with all the starting, I didn't cast on for the back of the Ronnie sweater tonight. I did however start a Ruffles scarf which I may rip, worked on a bag from Rowan Big Wool and gazed upon my Kidsilk Scarf. Ahhh, the joy of knitting.
Hair
I'm counting down the days until I get my hair done again. My hairdresser quit in May and that is when I last had my hair done. She's at a new location (albeit 45 minutes away compared to the short 5 minute drive from before) and on Saturday, this raggedly hair will be red again and a bit shorter. I'm also going back to the bangs. The no-bang idea just isn't working out.
Weight and that ugly word, Fat
Today Rachael spoke about how her doctor wanted her to lose weight and Carolyn announced that she was down 4.5 pounds, which made me think about weight (something I actually do quite often to be honest). This losing weight thing is so hard! It is just so much more fun to gain the weight than to lose it. In the last 2.5 months, I've lost 13.2 pounds and I'm proud of my efforts. However I can't keep wondering why others haven't noticed this success which then leads me into a bit of a depression because it means I still have a long way to go. It's like knitting a sweater, you feel accomplishment each time you finish a piece of the sweater but a lot of times others can't see your success because all they see is a piece of knitted fabric and can't yet see your vision. And those last 5 pounds (which I'm not near yet) is like the seaming of a sweater, sometimes it is the hardest part of the project. *sigh, reality is a hard thing to deal with.*
P.S. Congrats to Carolyn and Rachel, you do too like veggies!

These sleeves may yet be the death of me!
As I prepare to depart sleeve island, I also sit back to reflect on my trip to Sleeve Island. It has been a hard and laborious trip. One where there was cursing, ripping and hand-ringing. I made my first sleeve while working the garage sale at the beginning of July. Towards the middle of the month, I finished the first sleeve and began the second sleeve. It wasn't long before I discovered that the first sleeve was made for someone with much longer arms than me. I knew I would have to rip but I felt ok with that. Then I noticed a few mistakes which were easily fixed.
Last night I cast off on the second sleeve and set to ripping the first. So far the fixing is going well. I'm back on the sleeve cap and the decreases are looking good. All mistakes have been rectified and now I am just hoping that these sleeves are the right length. (*Fingers Crossed!*)
Tonight if I can get off Sleeve Island, I plan to cast on the back of this sweater. I have goals here people! This would make the perfect September Sweater if I can get it done by then. So I'll be setting some goals for myself and the knitting festival will continue.
Now if I could just stop the startistis problem I've been experiencing. You know where you start one project, cast it aside, start another, cast that one aside, buy new yarn, start another project...you know the procedure.
Yep, trying to just focus on the one for now. I want to wear this baby!

A Harlot-ing We Will Go
Last night was the night. The night I’d been waiting for. I got to see Stephanie in PERSON! She’s REAL! People have not been making this up!
Here she is making everyone laugh and laugh we did!
Meg and Jessica joined me for the Harlot-ly talk and you know we were knitting.
While in line to document the meeting of The Harlot, I met a fan, Laurel (ok so she isn’t necessarily a fan but she read the blog one time which is cool!)
And finally after waiting what seemed like forever, I got to speak to Stephanie and I told her how jealous I was that she met Rachel . Yep, jealous!
So after all that excitement, I was exhausted and went home to rest which was especially important since I'm working three concerts in a row this weekend. UghhH!

OMG OMG OMG OMG
In less than 24 hours I will meet the YARN HARLOT. Seriously there is hyperventilating going on over here!
Tomorrow I will be traveling down to Weaving Works to see the Yarn Harlot in person and if I could, I would have taken time off work to head down to Third Place books to see her there too but I just don't think it would work out if I did.
SO SO SO EXCITED!

Family Addition
Yo! Phoenix here! Remember me? I'm Rebecca's doggie nephew. Well my parents went out and got me a SISTER! Yep! We have the same parents which is cool and she's real small but so far, I think I like this new one. They call her Pandora. I call her ARFFF! GROWL! ARRRFFFF!
Rebecca showed her yarn tonight. Yum! I remember the taste of yarn. Hey Pandora, think I can get a taste?
This is Pandora's serious face. She hasn't figured out that she's too small for a serious face yet! They tell me she'll get bigger but I think they are crazy! She'll be little FOREVER and ever!
OK I gotta go play with her now. This is so much fun!

Happy Birthday Mama-Sun!
Today is my Mom's birthday. Yep, the birthday of the very same woman who freaked me out this morning by saying, "I'm quite worried about the cat. I can't find her," which lead to me leaping from bed and running downstairs. Once there I discovered that my Mom was just wondering where the cat was since she hadn't seen her all morning. Instead Destiny was peacefully hiding under my bed and was not outside and ripped to pieces by the raccoons as I sleepily thought.
So anyway, today is my Mom's birthday and tonight we'll celebrate with a feast prepared by yours truly. One I do hope all enjoy and one that helps lend a festive hand to my Mom's celebration.

Nothing to report
Sadly, I have nothing much to report. Well sad for the blog but not necessarily sad for my mental state.
I did however get the chance to visit Hilltop Yarn with Meg and somehow I convinced myself to buy another pattern book and more yarn!
Katie had shared this lovely book with me at the Stitch and Pitch and I knew I had to have it! I also spotted some cotton cashmere yarn and grab a few skeins in Aqua. I'm going to make the cutest sweater ever from it and if I'm able, I'll give it to some lucky child. I fear though that I may not be able to part with it. I'm already petting the swatch and refusing to let that go!
The rest of the weekend was spent working at the Chateau, knitting, running and swimming. I was bad though and skipped my 20 mile bike ride. I need to go birthday present shopping though! It's not a great excuse but it is all that I have.
So I guess I did have something to say, hmmmmm...
