The 100 Day Project

A post shared by Rebecca Mongrain (@reebecki) on

While on vacation, I completed a HUGE project - the 100 Day Project which I started back in April. I took a black and white photo everyday for 100 days. I've tried to complete this project two other times but failed miserably after about 40 days.

After successfully completing this one, I decided my previous attempts were too ambitious. The last two times I tried to knit a swatch a day which sounds doable but takes at least 20 minutes. This time though was a grand success and so much fun! The key this time around was keeping it simple and a less than 10 minute daily commitment. This meant that some days I spent forever getting the perfect shot and other days, I'd sneak into my kid's bedroom after bedtime to quickly snap a shot and upload it to Instagram.

I had so much fun completing this project and plan to make a book out of it for myself. I love looking at the photos I made over 100 days. You can see all my photos here: https://www.instagram.com/explore/tags/100daysofreebeckibwphotography/

100 Day Project Update

Untitled

It's Day 39 of the 100 Day Project. Our prompt today was to show a grouping of what we've been doing for the past 6 weeks (Whoa! It's been 6 weeks!). I'm 9 swatches (yikes) behind on my project but I have a nice collection of 30. I've been throwing them in a plastic shoebox at the end of the dining room table and was fascinated to see how much there were when I dumped them out today.

I've also started the writing portion of my TKGA Master Knitting 1 submission and I'm getting excited about digging deep. I think I reserved every knitting technique book available through the Seattle Public Library.

I'm currently deep into research on blocking knits. I never knew there was so much written about blocking one's knitted garments and yet this is such an important part of caring for your knitted work. Got any great blocking tips? I'd love to hear them!

100 Day Project Update

Swatch #14 #100daysproject #100daysofswatching

I'm about a quarter of the way into my 100 Day Project and I'm still going strong! I'm the swatch master! The one surprising thing to me is how quickly I'm going through yarn. I've already used a skein and a half yarn. I really thought it was going to be enough but it looks like a visit to the yarn store will be in order.

I've also been working on the writing portion of my TKGA Master Knitting 1 project. It's funny though for all the writing I do, whenever I try to sit down and write on knitting, I end up stopping to knit! I just want to knit. I plan to tackle the blocking report within the coming weeks so I can really focus on the swatches and answering the questions related to them.

Swatch #8! I'm a wee bit behind but hope to catch up by Sunday. #100daysproject #100daysofswatching

The 100 Day Project

100 Days of Swatching

On April 7th (a day late), I dove into the 100 Day Project with 100 Days of Swatching. It fits nicely in with my goal of completing the TKGA Master Knitting Level 1 project.

I'm a day late but I'm jumping in with the #100daysproject! I'll be doing 100 days of swatching which corresponds with my goal of completing the TKGA Master Knitter 1 program. #100daysofswatching

The basic premise is to make something everyday for 100 days. I decided on swatching because I need to submit 17 perfect swatches for the TKGA Master Knitting Level 1 project and I've found that repetition leads to better knitting for me. I calculated that I need to do 5 swatches for each perfect swatch which will give me 85 swatches and leaves me with 15 swatches to do however I see fit. I've already done 3 swatches of my 15 for fun and have been concentrating on knitting up swatch #1 this week. I'm currently working on the 5th one. I'm hoping one of them feels perfect to me.

I'm documenting my efforts on Instagram and keeping an album on Flickr.  I'm using the hashtag #100daysofswatching along with the group hashtag of #100daysproject. Check out the other projects under that second hashtag. Some of the projects are quite intensive and all of them impress me.

Other misc. details: Most of my swatches are being knit in Cascade 220 Ivory. It's what I'm using to submit my watches for TKGA as it fits nicely into their requirements. It also shows off knit stitches in an exceptional way.
