Sunday Scribblings - Wings

We used to laugh when we heard Bette Midler sing the song, “Wind beneath my Wings” but now I sigh when I hear it. This is because you have become the wind beneath my wings. You know when to push me along with a gusty breath and when to gently guide me to my proper path.

You are the wind beneath my wings; sometimes the snarky, just do it pushy wind; sometimes the gentle breeze leading me to my proper destination; sometimes the gusty wind sending me on new adventures and sometimes the whispering wind, providing me with inspiration.

Your w
ind has given me the ability to stretch my wings but your wind has been there when my wings have been clipped, when I didn’t think I’d be able to spread them again. You’ve always made me believe that I’d be able to use my wings again and that I’d be able to spread them even further than before.

I strive to be the wind beneath your wings, when you need an extra gust when traveling along your path of life. I work to gently whisper support when your wings have been clipped from overuse. I lift you up when you are down and soar with you when you are full of joy.

For the wind beneath my wings, I thank you because I wouldn’t be the same without you and your wings.

Dilbert In My Head

I almost snorted coffee out my nose this morning when I read this comic from Dilbert. I sometimes wonder if Dilbert works in my office and knows my greatest nightmares!

A Not So Innocent Face

Early last week, I was watching this cute little dog named Jesse.

April 16, 2007

See that cute innocent face...the one that lives for playing ball and taking walks, the one that you lures you into beliving that you can leave things on the floor because she would never, ever get into your things and ruin them. She is a much better dog than that! OR SO I BELIEVED!

On Saturday afternoon (while watching another dog), I went to curl my hair when I noticed something was quite wrong with my curling iron.

Evidence

Somehow the cord was no longer attached to the electric plug. At first I suspected the dog I was watching but then I realized that I had left my bag (where the curling iron was located) on the bathroom counter which the dog could not reach so he was released from custody.

Closeup of Evidence

After careful deliberation, it was determined that the culprit was Jesse, the not-so-innocent dog!

Sunday Scribblings - Rooted

Sunday Scribblings - Rooted

She is not rooted to any one place but she is rooted to many people. She has connections to people around the world from London to Brazil and Seattle to San Diego. She keeps her roots in the hearts of the people she knows and loves while leaving the places she’s lived behind her. Like the wind, she is a memory in the souls of many and when her gentle breeze comes by, they smile with delight. Her kind of wind is almost always welcomed by those who recognize it.

I fight against being rooted but I am rooted to this place. It is my soul that remains un-rooted. It is my soul that floats along the land seeking its right place while my body remains in one place. I want to become un-rooted but my roots keep drawing me back to the same place. I’m drawn back because the place holds the people I am rooted to. They are the ones that keep me rooted where I am and if they ever left, I’m sure I’d go with them. Even though I know this, my soul fights against being pinned down. My soul needs to be un-rooted to thrive while my heart needs its roots. So, I will allow my soul to roam on vacations and my heart to remain rooted at home in its current reality.

We are two un-rooted souls who are rooted together by our hearts. Without the other, we would wither and no longer prosper. We live far apart in actual distance but live close together because we are rooted to the other. Being rooted isn’t always a bad thing. Sometimes it is our roots that keep us grounded to the other.

Mitering Along

The miter-fest continues over at Chez Supergirl.

Latest Miter

I finished up two more miters which meant I finished another big square. I now have 4 big squares finished and only about a million to go. Luckily I really like making miters.

Classic Knitting

I’ve been lusting after Erika Knight’s latest book, Classic Knits for awhile now. When I finally punched all that could be punched on my Weaving Works card, I quickly made my way back to the store and purchased, Classic Knits. It’s a lovely book filled with patterns that appear to be designed solely for me (except for the bag, I don’t like the bag).

I had seen the Kelly Cardigan on a few blogs and knew that I had to make it BUT it calls for 8-10 skeins of Rowan Kidsilk Haze. While lovely yarn that would be an expensive sweater so after thinking about my stash for a bit, I remembered that I had a few skeins of Misty Alpaca in lace weight. I believe that I have enough yarn for this sweater but if not, I know where I can acquire more for cheap!

Last night at Ferals, I decided to make my swatch. My lovely, little swatch that now has me frothing at the mouth to start this sweater. Never mind that I have a ton of other lovely projects that I should be finishing. No I think I’d rather sit myself down and start knitting on a new one!

Super Pasta

Everyday Pasta

This past weekend, my co-worker was at an event with Giada. I asked him to get a book signed for me and that it be inscribed to "Supergirl". He laughed at me but said he'd do it.

I guess Giada found it amusing too but look! my new cookbook is inscribed to Supergirl!

Eye Candy Friday

Red Truck Collage

As I was out walking last night, I spotted this vintage red Fork truck and knew I had to photograph it. The light was ideal and since I have no shame, I started snapping even though the passerbys were all staring at me. It was worth it in the end.

Goals

April Daffodils

I've been thinking about goals lately and I realized that I haven't updated my 101 in 1001 goals in awhile. Well since I went on vacation way back in February (it now seems a distant memory!). But I'm not one to let a silly thing like vacation get in the way of accomplishing my goals, in fact, I incorporated many of my goals into my vacation.

While on vacation, I was able to accomplish the following 101 in 1001 goals. These all link to their own private entry on my 101 in 1001 blog.

37. See two previously unseen Vermeer Paintings
68. Buy a ring for myself
63. Go to Ireland
57. Go to England

Now I just need to get back on accomplishing a few more of those 101 goals. Like the TKGA Master Knitter program. Of course now I need to buy new needles since there was an incident involving a dog. Little brat!

Mitering

Miterlove

Last night I layed out my mitered squares to contemplate the color arrangement. I'm using Kay's No-Sew method which means I have to think a little bit. OK a lot and then steam blows out my head!

Mitering

I am really enjoying this process. I like finishing something everyday even if it is just a small mitered square. Some days I finish TWO!

Miteredness

This will be a much loved blanket once it is complete but I know that I have a long road to hull. I currently have 14 squares and I need 80 which means I am 17% complete or that I still have to knit 83% more on this blanket. That's a lot of knitting.

Mitered Love

I even took some time last night to lay out the squares so that I know what colors to tackle next. Here is the potential layout:

Photographing

Greenlake Collage

I've been busy. real busy lately. and I've been knitting lots of miter squares but more interestingly, I've been photographing everything.

April 7, 2007

I spent Saturday on a Flickrite photostroll at Greenlake where we didn't let the rain dampen our spirits (we just retreated to Duke's and drank beer). I had so much fun and the flickrites are a fun group who are up for anything.

Ducks on a grate

Next time...miters...lots and lots of miters.

Miter Madness

Last year some time I started working on my Mitered Square blanket and I knit up about 4 squares before drifting off to another project. Then earlier this month, Cara began posting about her obsession with mitered squares and my interest was re-engergized.

Mitered Squares

And so I began knitting mitered squares again but then I realized that I was just grabbing at colors and I wanted to be more thoughtful in my color selection. So last night I took the wad of colors and began winding.

Unwound Yarn

A short time later, my yarn was wound up (I still need about 20 more skeins but what I had was done) and I could review yarn colors in a more thoughtful manner.

Wound Yarn

And some Friday Eye Candy for the dog lovers, here is Poochi posing with her ball for me.

Hollywood as Theraphy

Gazing Ball

Last night I was on the phone with Mot and I told her I was obsessing (which I do quite well) about an issue we had previously discussed. After taking a deep nasally breath, Mot said, "What do YOU want to do?"

Now this is Mot's favorite line from The Notebook and one that resonates with both of us.

Blue Trees

So I told her want I wanted to do and she responded with, "DO it!" which is another of her favorite lines from the Starsky and Hutch movie with Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson.

I started laughing when she said this which led her to defend her Hollywood Theraphy lines. We really started laughing at that but I do have to say that Mot was able to get me to say what I wanted and then encouraged me to DO it!

Mot -- This morning, I did it. I did what I wanted and it felt just right, just perfect.

My Eyeball

I went to the eye doctor this morning for a check-up on the ole eyeball and I was so happy to hear that it is almost all better. Unfortunately the pressure in my eye is slightly elevated from the steroid eye drops as I am one of the 20% classified as steroid responders. The good news is that this is easily remedied. I will be weaned off the eye drops (MY DROPS! MY PRECIOUS!) and will have a final check-up in about a week. Also I still have excellent eyesight which is another fantastic thing!

Tonight...miter madness!

Leaving the Crazy at Home

This morning, I had an appointment out in Bellevue and as I prepared to leave, I went to grab my bag which carries all sorts of fun stuff from big books to yarn, clothing, food and pens (lots of pens which I can never find when I need them). As I reached down, I realized that I might need to leave the crazy at home.

My bag unfortunately reflects the state of my mind. If I am calm, it is neat and orderly. If I am feeling rushed and stressed, then it looks crowded and disorganized.

I must have been feeling a bit stressed on Thursday when I went to the doctor because the nurse told me that my bag was giving women a bad name and that I needed to tidy it up. I wanted to know if she had been speaking with my Mom!

Episcleritis or WOW My EYE REALLY HURTS

Yesterday morning I woke up and noticed that my eye hurt. I stumbled into the bathroom where I noticed my eye was RED but there weren't any other symptoms other than my eye hurting. I got dressed, left off the make-up and headed to work. Around 9 a.m. I started calling the doctors for an appointment. I got into my regular doctor at 4:40 p.m. where he told me I either had Conjuntivitis (Pink Eye) or Episcleritis (http://www.revoptom.com/handbook/sect2f.htm) and that I needed to see my eye doctor.

So I called my eye doctor and made an appointment for this morning where I learned that I have Episcleritis which luckily isn't contagious but unfortunately could be a symptom of an auto immune disease. My eye doctor told me not to worry about the auto immune disease possibility unless this showed up again. Of course I'm still worrying a bit (because of course I WORRY!) and I am due for my annual exam in a few weeks so I'm going to ask my regular doctor to check for this stuff to be safe.

So anyhoo, no photos of the eye because that would be mean and I'm staying at home today knitting, pouting and just staying off the computer (ok just a bit on the computer but now I'm off to knit and relax the eyeball).

Eating Cupcakes

Trophy Cupcakes

Last night after work, running around and feeding Roux, I headed over to Trophy Cupcakes in Wallingford Center.

Smashed Cupcakes

The shop is decorated in beautiful browns and aquas with the perfect touches placed everywhere. The staff was very friendly though a bit slow (in their defense I was feeling antsy since I had left the dog in the car, the dog that FREAKS OUT when left in the car alone). Regulars have already claimed the shop as their own and the phone was ringing off the hook for birthday party orders.

March 20, 2007

I left the shop with my cupcakes in hand and headed out to the car. My hazard lights were one and Roux had licked every window surface in my car. I wasn't bothered though since I had cupcakes. I haven't tried the actual cupcakes yet but I can tell you that my taste of the frosting was so delicious! I can't wait to have a cupcake for lunch today. That will be a fantastic treat.

P.S. I think I like Trophy Cupcakes more than other cupcake shops in the area because they actually have different flavors, like a real cupcake shop should.
