Pinwheel Quilt Progress

Under the careful supervision of Mel-B, I worked on the Pinwheel Quilt this weekend. I have four more blocks to complete and I all I want to do is work on these quilt blocks!



My progress was slowed this weekend by a bone-head sewing mistake. I sewed all my HST's together wrong side out and had to spend the next few hours ripping out my mistake!



I'm quite excited about this blanket. It's looking super good!

Pinwheel Blocks Wheee!

Last week, Jocelyn commanded that I start working on my Pinwheel Sampler Quilt again. Since she inspired me to start it over a year ago, I decided that it was only right that I listen to her directive. And since I found my sewing mojo during my Crafterday with Rachel, I spent a lot of my Sunday sewing.



I am happy to say that I am halfway through the Pinwheels. It has been nice to see that my sewing skills have improved over the past year. I compared a block I made about a year ago with one I made today and there is a vast improvement! There is hope for me yet.



I have the fabric cut for 6.5 more blocks and have run into a bit of an issue. I've run out of cream fabric! The one fabric I've been using to tie the quilt together. Normally this wouldn't be an issue but I joined the Stashpact in a solid attempt to use up my craft supplies instead of just adding to them.



I think breaking the pact in this instance will be ok though. I'm only buying fabric to ensure that I finish a project I've started. Not buying the fabric would mean an unfinished project which is not really in the spirit of the pact. I am however going to buy my fabric online. If I head into a fabric store full of pretty, pretty fabric, I'm sure to fall down and buy something I don't need.



Once I have more cream fabric, I'll be able to finish sewing up more blocks. Since I'm halfway done, I'm going to try to have this quilt finished by the end of March. It would make a wonderful Spring quilt!

Shiny, Scrappy, Quilty

I spent last week working hard to get my One Shiny Bee quilt blocks finished up.



And I'm quite happy with them! I'm now ready for some red and white quilt work that I hear is coming in February!

Pinwheels

I've been following P.S. I Quilt's tutorial on the Pinwheel Sampler Quilt.

Rachel's posted tutorials for six blocks and the idea is that you make two of each. I am a little behind and I'm only making one of each for now.



I've already learned so much about pinwheel blocks after only four blocks. I'm looking forward to finding a few spare moments to catch up but I suspect it won't happen until after my wedding and honeymoon, which is only 13 days away!

Of Love and Memories

A few months ago, Scott's grandmother gave me some of her quilting fabric. She told me that she wouldn't be able to use it all before she passed. Unfortunately she was right. She passed a little over a month ago and while we miss her, we know that she lived a wonderful life and got to really, truly enjoy her great-grandchild as they lived across the street from her.



I promised Scott's grandmother that I would make quilts for her great-grandchildren out of the fabric she gave me. I decided to make two coin quilts; one in blue and one in pink.



I started work on the quilts and while I tried, I did not finish them in time to show them to Scott's grandma but I know that she would have liked them.



When we last went down to visit Scott's family, I brought the quilts. Tyler loved his quilt so much and kept telling Scott about the different fabrics. Hailey was excited and loved all the pink coloring.

Where the Fun Ends

I've been working steadily along on quilts for Scott's niece and nephew. His grandmother gave me some of her fabric stash and I promised to make quilts for her great-grandchildren. She's now no longer with us and her great-grandchildren miss her dearly.

I showed the children the unfinished quilts this weekend and the excitement in their eyes has spurred me on to finish these blankets. But I'm at the point where another friend (Jocelyn) recently told me, "the fun ends".



I'm not sure why but the binding is so hard and so not fun! I did pin the binding on today and machine sewed one side on both the quilts. I then watched two episodes of "Six Feet Under" (Scott got the entire series and we are watching it from start to finish- what fun!) while hand-sewing the binding.

Sadly I am slow and only got one side of one quilt done. I'll need to work harder this week to get these quilts done by Friday for the promised delivery date.
